Date Rape Drug in a Toy?, Hy-Vee Hall Expansion and Winter Weather Awareness,

This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated.

Good Morning.

First of all kudos bloggers for your responses yesterday.

I loved hearing what all of you had to say yesterday regarding the environment. I think a lot of people share your same opinions. It was fun to read your responses.

Also… just wanted to let all of you know that we are starting up Gen-X Moms again. The first story will air on Thursday and I will do a new one every week. I am told the blog will be up in a few days again and I will be contributing to it as much as possible. So, watch for that. Thanks for being patient on this. I know a lot of you want it back. With that said, please send me story ideas for the GEN-X series. I want to know what young moms are concerned about these days. As a new mom, I am thinking about a limited number of topics like sleeping through the night and when to start rice cereal. My focus is pretty limited so I need help being steered toward issue that effect moms.

If you tuned in around 5:30 I’m afraid I set Brooke off a little this morning. I have the tendency to get off my script a little and adlib. sometimes it works…sometimes I add in something that doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you watched at 5:30, I was guilty of the later.

We recovered and moved on…but I think ti was just what everyone needed. We were all dragging a little this morning. I got to the set and realized I hadn’t combed my hair when I went to the bathroom to get ready. I’m not sure why. My only excuse is that I was sleepwalking a little this morning and the coffee wasn’t all that good.

Recall

This may be the most bizarre recall we’ve seen yet. A bead set from a Canadian company actually turns into the Date rape Drug GHB when ingested. You guessed it…it was made in China and apparently the chemicals can cause dizziness and can cause children to go into a coma or even die if they ingest too much of the chemical. This is scary. We have more information about this product and the recall on a separate blog we created this morning.

Hy Vee Hall

Polk County Sups are considering the expansion of Hy-Vee Hall. This isn’t new news but it looks like they’re closer to making a decision. They may just extend out the financing for the construction of the building. That would give em more money…they’d still use gaming money to pay the debt off.

Presidential Polls

There is a new poll out by the Wall Street Journal that says Hillary is smoking her competition — at least at a national level. 47% of likely voters want her to be President. Barack Obama trails with 25% and John Edwards with 11%. But here in Iowa we know the gap isn’t as wide. Most polls show it is a tighter race. The Republican side is interesting. Rudy Guiliani leads the Wall Street Journal Poll with 33% followed by John McCain with 16% and Fred Thompson with 15%. Mitt Romney, who leads polls here in Iowa isn’t even on that poll. This is why I love the Iowa Caucus Season. You never know what is going to happen!

By the way, Tim Russert will be hosting “Meet the Press” live from our studios Sunday morning. Should be an exciting morning around here for everyone who works what is usually a pretty laid back shift. Mike, one of the guys who works in our control room on Sunday morning said everyone has to be in at 2:00 to make sure everything is in place. Today the studio is being cleaned from top to bottom. Tim Russert is a big deal around here!

Have a great day. See you tomorrow.

Great news about the Gen X blog. I would love to see something done on how other working mothers feed their families at dinner time. After working all day, the last thing I usually want to do is cook but I’m also very anti-fast food.

I think that’s a great idea! I don’t usually get home until late, but don’t always want to get fast food for my son and me. Maybe recipes that are quick and easy? Thanks for all you do!

Yippee! I’m excited that the GenX Moms is starting back up! I think you should do a story on finding Preschools and what to look for. It seems as if all of them in the DSM and surrounding areas all have HUGE waiting lists, what to do, were to start.I’m also all for the dinner ideas, anything in that area helps. I would love to share a few time saving ideas-that are healthy/smart too!Good job this morning, yet again!I’m not happy with the gas prices…yuck. $72 to fill up the beast! Coupons on everything-here I come!

I am a working mom of 2 and I personally LOVE the crock-pot. I have learned that you can even put in frozen chicken breasts in the morning on low and then come home and make chicken tacos, etc… I couldn’t live without my crockpot.Angi

What a great idea…finding preschools! There are so many different things that you need to look for in finding a good preschool, but where do you begin?I also really like the quick and easy recipes idea. Thanks!Claire

Sorry the studio will be closed for the Meet the Press taping. I think everyone would appreciate people staying away. For instance…we work here and Brooke Jeriann and I will not be there.

I love Tim Russert! So intelligent, and I met him when he was in town for the last Iowa Caucuses – really down to earth and a heck of a guy. I’ll be tuning in for sure!As for the GenXmoms blogs/stories, I agree with the above ideas – definitely! I would also recommend choosing a daycare (in addition to finding a preschool). It’s such a huge decision – who will take care of your child – and there are so many options it’s easy to be overwhelmed. Possible angles:– in-home vs. center: benefits and downfalls of both– how to find reasonably-priced daycare without sacrificing quality of care (i.e. where your money is best spent)– What to look for when you’re scouting out places– How to do your homework (where to check their record, backgrounds, etc.)Daycare alone could be a week-long series, it’s such a big decision.

Make sure not to offer any Fuzzy -way- ward Coffee Cups to Tim…could you see it now? the one doing the explaining?…”You see we’re been doing this segment on gross coffee cups!”… 🙂 Have a Great Day!!-Brenda E

This has nothing to do with today’s blog, but I thought Ch. 13 had a birthday club. When someone turns 1 you send their picture in and you put it on the news. Maybe I just missed it on the website, but wondering if you could answer that for me. Keep up the good work. I’m very excited that GenX Mom is coming back.

What about a section on single moms? I know I’m not the only single mom around here and it would be nice to share stories on many different the aspects of it.Just an idea…

I want to know more about Brooke dating Kenney Chesney. The story was never finished. I did love seeing you blush and giggle though.

If you consider doing a segment on quick meals, post 5 or 10 a week and make sure they are ingredients that a typical person would have in their kitchen. Also maybe develop a cookbook and sell it to promote a favorite charity.

Does anybody have the link to the un-moderated version of the blog that somebody started? I had the link but now I lost it. If any of you who started posting there are still reading here, please post it!
