Hello and Happy Monday, gang!
I am finally starting to feel “normal” after a wonderful, whirlwind trip to London last week. It was rather last-minute and not at all structured, but that’s kind of how we like doing things. Michael and I hit many of the main tourist spots like Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London but also spent a lot of time wandering around the city soaking up a different culture and talking to people. I’m always interested in picking people’s brains about all sorts of different topics so it was fun to meet people from Britain, South Africa, Australia and Prague and chat with them. All in all it was a great getaway, although I wouldn’t recommend going in January. It was cold, but at least there weren’t any blizzards or ice storms!
We flew home late Friday night because we both had commitments on Saturday. Mine was the annual Rally Against Cancer. This year’s speaker was Coach Mike Ditka and he made the 10th anniversary a wonderful event. Keith and I help with the event every year and it is always fun. This year attendance records were broken and people went nuts bidding on items during the live auction so I’m hoping fundraising records were set as well. Da Coach covered a lot of ground in his speech, and told a lot of great stories, but he also said if we walked away remembering one thing that he said that night he wanted it to be “A.C.E.” Attitude, Character and Enthusiasm. Those are Ditka’s three secrets to success and happiness. Oh yeah … he also said Kurt Warner should absolutely end up in the Hall of Fame. The Coach also spent a lot of time critcizing the media for being so negative so I’d like to encourage you to keep sending me ideas for “13 Cares” reports.
Sonya and I start a new adventure this week and we hope you’ll come along for the ride by watching the Channel 13 News at Five. Every Tuesday we’ll be bringing you “Workout of the Week.” You’ll be getting workouts, tips from trainers, health advice from doctors, nutrition guidelines from dietitians, and we’ll also explore things like physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic and even spa treatments … the possibilities are endless! If you can’t tune in at five, we will be creating “webisodes” that you can watch online and we’ll also have a blog where you can comment on the week’s workout and submit your own ideas and questions. Check things out on Tuesday and let me know what you think – this week you’ll see me and Sonya hitting things (and sweating A LOT)!
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
