Eating healthy is hard to do in today s busy, fast-paced world. With everyone always on the go, how can a family sit down to eat a healthy well-balanced meal together?
Carrie Leiran, a Dietitian, at UnityPoint Health, says, It’s important to choose at least one or two nights a week to eat a well-balanced meal at home. It can be an opportunity to have a healthier meal as well as spend time with your family discussing the days events.
Cooking is a great way to cut calories, as you can pick and choose healthier ingredients. Here are some tips on making sure your meal is well balanced and healthy:
- Try whole wheat pasta
- Use skim milk
- Include plenty of fruits and vegetables
- Drink water or milk, instead of carbonated beverages.
There are many benefits to eating evening meals at home. Time together as a family, an opportunity to save money, an opportunity to plan healthful meals and teach your children what good nutrition is all about. said Carrie Leiran.
