ROLLOVER ACCIDENT: Des Moines Police say a mother was driving recklessly when she rolled her car several times injuring herself and her children

A mother is facing charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain control for an accident that injured herself and her two children Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 10:40 a.m. as 38-year-old Kathleen Baker-Schellin was exiting the westbound lanes of Highway 5 to Fleur Drive. Witnesses told police Baker-Schellin was travelling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her car and it rolled at least six times.

The five-year-old child of Baker-Schellin was ejected during the accident and was found walking a short distance from the car. Baker-Schellin and her 1-year-old child were trapped in the vehicle, but rescue crews were able to free them.

All three were taken to Methodist Medical Center and their injuries are not expected to be life threatening.

Des Moines Police say additional charges are pending against Baker-Schellin.
