STATE DINNER: Historic Gathering Calls for Future Connections

Wednesday, night, Governor Terry Branstad hosted a state dinner on behalf of his VIP guest, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping.

Nearly 650 invited guests of Iowa lawmakers, business and community leaders, and Xi’s delegation filled the statehouse rotunda.

The meal featured all Iowa products. The governor offered a toast to Xi and called for strengthening relationships between Iowa and China.

The governor said, “So many Iowans are pleased that a man we befriended those many years ago, has risen to such a position of prominence and respect in the great nation of China.”

In return, Xi thanked his host and praised Iowans’ warmth and hardworking spirit.
