F-16 FIGHT: Gov. Terry Branstad is asking the Secretary of Defense to find other ways to cut spending without cutting the Iowa Air Guard in Des Moines

Gov. Terry Branstad and nearly every other governor in the U.S. used their recent trip to Washington, D.C. to lodge another protest of proposed spending cuts to the Iowa Air National Guard.

The governor sent a letter to Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta that was also signed by other governors. It says governors understand the need to reduce spending, but he argues the Iowa National Air Guard is not the right place to do it.

The proposed cuts would eliminate 21 F-16 fighter jets in Des Moines and the 500 jobs that go with them.
