GUN CHARGES: A man from Mason City faces criminal charges, after his 4-year-old son accidentally shot him

Police say 29-year-old Christopher Upenieks of Mason City was shot on accident Monday by his 4-year-old son who found an unsecured handgun in their truck. 

Upenieks was still in the truck when police arrived.

Upenieks was ticketed for child endangerment and allowing a minor access to a loaded firearm, both misdemeanors.

Police say he did have a valid permit to carry a gun.
