CLARINDA SHOOTING: Officer Involved In Shooting

Authorities are investigating a shooting involving a police officer in southern Iowa.

Police were called to an apartment in Clarinda around 3:15 Wednesday morning.

A woman told authorities a man was trying to break in through her window with a hammer.  When the officer arrived, the man allegedly turned on him, and the officer opened fire.

The suspect is hospitalized, but his condition is not being released.

The officer is on paid leave, which is standard procedure.

Authorities are expected to provide more information Thursday.
