Police records were released Tuesday giving more detail to what a young Indianola mother left behind before killing her son and taking her own life.
Police say 23-year old Kelli Sly intentionally crashed her car into a bridge along the Highway 5 bypass Sunday morning. Later that day officer’s went to Sly’s Indianola apartment where they discovered the body of her two-year old son Gavin.
Investigators discovered an envelope left on a kitchen counter in Sly’s apartment. Found inside was a letter to Sly’s estranged husband with the title, “Last words to Tim.” The envelope also contained tax information, marriage certificates, and some of Gavin Sly’s infant clothing.
Police have not yet released how Gavin was killed, but according to reports several empty bottles of pills were found in the apartment.
Police also located a glass with an oral baby/toddler syringe in the garbage. At the bottom of the glass was an “unknown substance.”
Funeral services for Gavin Sly will be held on Thursday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines.
