A power outage damaged the city of Mount Ayr water plant on Tuesday morning, temporarily knocking out the water supply.

The water is back on Tuesday night, but it’s not drinkable. Town officials put a boil order in place for two days while the city's water lines are flushed.

That means no drinkable water until at least Thursday.

The town is asking residents to conserve water in the meantime and that means no toilet flushing. To make it easier on people, officials set up portable toilets all around town.

The portable toilet service won't be needed for long. The water pressure should be back to normal on Wednesday.

However the two day boil advisory will continue through Thursday at the earliest.
