Classes were canceled for a second day at Southwestern Community College in Creston Tuesday.
The campus was one of the hardest hit areas of town. With no classes on Monday either, some of the students rolled up their sleeves, grabbed rakes and started collecting the trash spread across campus.
Inside the dorms at Spartan Hall, students picked up what’s left of their belongings after the storm blew through. They say they’re glad for the work because it takes their minds off the tornado.
“Doing something for someone else always makes you feel good, but still just seeing all of this just makes my heart sink to my stomach,” says Joseph Putzier of Creston.
SWCC student Sara Weirich says, “We don’t have a roof and the TV was blown everywhere and everything is just scattered and insulation everywhere and it’s just a disaster.”
