Extra officers will be on patrol in West Des Moines this weekend, making sure motorists stay safe as an influx of visitors comes to the metro because of the Drake Relays.
West Des Moines police say more officers will be working Friday through Sunday. The department hopes the extra officers will help deter people from drinking and driving. They’ll be focusing on catching impaired drivers.
Police are cautioning people to make plans for a sober driver if they plan to drink and if you suspect someone is driving drunk – call 911.
The enforcement project is being funded by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
