A motorcycle safety event was sold-out in Ames Friday.
The safety program is put on annually by the DOT, motorcycle trainers, dealers and riders.
Organizers are hoping to put a stop to an alarming trend: Since the 1990s motorcycle fatalities have been increasing in Iowa and nationally.
In Iowa alone, 34 people were killed while driving or riding motorcycles in 2011.
There's no law in Iowa regarding helmets or any protective gear.
But this event challenges that with the theme "All the gear, all the time."
The Iowa Department of Transportation says an early spring could mean more motorcycle accidents this year.
