Andy Fales is in Kentucky at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby Saturday.  While he’s been there, he’s done a little of everything.

He watched the sun come up over the Dale Romans barn. Up close as Dullahan marched out for his morning run.  And then return to his team of groomers that made him look like the millions he’s worth.

He watched the first fans trickle in, tempted by stuff you’d never see at another sporting event, like Mint Juleps.

They crossed into the infield to watch the horses launch from the gate, and then thunder by.

You forget that there’s a grass track there too.

Then it’s back to the crowd and the colors.  The hats are as loud as they are wild.

Before the big race, a thunderstorm came through, clearing the infield and forcing a long delay.

But eventually the fillies run, and the crowd leans in.  And a new champion is cheered.

And that was all on the day before the Kentucky Derby.
