The Iowa DNR hosted a catch and release fishing event for families Friday morning.
Little Joanna Hammel says, “It was the first fish I caught and I was surprised.” Joanna caught her first fish, and that was followed by at least four others.
The event was held to promote Free Fishing Weekend in Iowa.
Any out-of-state visitors still need to have a license to cast a lure.
The Iowa DNR says this fishing season is shaping up very nicely.
Chief of the Fisheries Bureau, Joe Larscheid says, “In fact, right now it's one of our record license years right now. We are selling more license now than in last ten years at this point.”
The DNR says the nice weather and recent lake restorations are likely to thank for the record season.
Free fishing weekend runs through Sunday.
