School is out for the summer and that means the Des Moines School District will start up the summer food service program.

Starting this week, kids under the age of 18 can receive a free meal at one of 24 meal sites throughout the community.

Eleven of those sites will serve both breakfast and lunch, the rest will only serve lunch.

Last summer, the school district served an average of 1,400 lunches per day.
