NO WINNER: Too Many Candidates In Primary Race
In Polk County, one primary election from Tuesday ended without a winner.
Six people were in the Republican primary for House District 37 in northern Ankeny. In order to win a candidate must earn 35-percent of the vote and all six came up short.
“It’s a tough thing. The more people that run and run effective and good campaigns, it’s really tough to get to the 35% level,” says Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald.
He says he’s still waiting for about 50 absentee ballots to come in but doubts they will lead to a clear winner.
If no candidate receives 35-percent, the winner will be selected at the county Republican convention.
