MURPHY’S LAW: Rhoads’ Stache, Dario vs. Helio, Rizzo Hurt
By Chris Hassel
Paul Rhoads has done away with the beard and unleashed the handlebar beast. Here’s to hoping he keeps this baby around for a while.
Indycar’s best drivers are in Iowa, today, to test out some new tires on the Iowa Speedway. I was having a debate with a friend about Dario and Helio, Monday night. He thinks that more girls know who Helio is that know who Dario is. I find that extremely hard to believe.
Anthony Rizzo hasn’t had many bad days as a member of the Iowa Cubs, but Tuesday was definitely one of them. After going 0-for-2 at the plate, Rizzo had to leave the game after sliding into the dugout fence, as he was attempting to catch a foul ball. Rizzo walked off on his own power, with a slight limp. He banged up his knee, but Cubs people are saying he should be fine.
Carlisle softball coach, Jim Flaws, goes for his 900th win later on tonight. I don’t think I’ve won 10 of anything. Maybe sodas. I used to win at least 1 free pop a day when the soft drink companies would run those “look under the cap” promotions.
Game 1 of the NBA Finals tonight. As bad as I wanted the Heat to lose in the ECF, I’m glad they didn’t. Boston/OKC would’ve made for a boring finals. Most people are picking the Thunder. I hope they’re right, but I don’t buy it. I have a bad feeling LeBron is going to get his first ring, this month.
Nick Collison should become the first native Iowan to score in the NBA Finals, since Matt Bullard scored for Houston in the 94 finals. That according to Iowa State SID (and sports guru), Mike Green.
Former Cyclone, Diante Garrett, is coming back to town. Garrett will play in the YMCA Capital City League, this summer, after spending much of the year overseas. Garrett, who went undrafted after graduating from ISU a year ago, played for a team in Croatia. Don’t be surprised if he ends up playing for the Iowa Energy, next year.
I had the chance to play Wakonda Country Club with Bachman, Wilson, and Winters, on Monday. None of us birdied a single hole —- until Ed pitched in from 30 yards out on the last.
