MURPHY’S LAW: Lolo on Leno, Gold Bond Genius, Hassel Concert
Lolo Jones’ appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno has drawn somewhat mixed reviews. I liked her energy and candor. I always appreciate when an athlete is more unpredictable than robotic. Others found Lolo’s stories disjointed and crass. Judge for yourself. Part 1 here. Part 2 here.
I’ve never seen a community centered around one sport quite like Eugene, Oregon is for track & field. It’s cool. The Hayward Field set-up is amazing, no small thanks to nearby Nike. (Though it should be noted, Hayward Field was famous before Nike was around.)
The Olympic Trials blows away the NCAA Championships. It’s not even close. If Drake could pull it off in 2016, it would change Des Moines.
How can there be an absolute dead heat in the 100 meters with all the technology we have now? And how could the winner possibly be decided by a coin toss? Run-off! (which is an option)
It’s good to have Andy Fales back. I respect his trips to unplug in the Boundary Waters. And I’m relieved he doesn’t invite me.
Andy stopped by the sports office on his way out the door at 10:30 p.m., “Hey, it’s going to be 100 degrees tomorrow. Don’t forget the Gold Bond powder.” Great advice.
We’re headed to Wrigley Field for a game Friday. Expected temperature: 97 degrees. Too hot for baseball?
Iowa will wear throwback uniforms for the CyHawk football game. I like it. I wish both teams would wear the old gear. I also like it when Iowa sports actual gold, instead of yellow that it calls gold.
Chris Hassel is at his second concert ever tonight. His first concert was Taylor Swift. Not making that up. His second is Gretchen Wilson, Three Doors Down, and ZZ Topp. I can’t wait to hear what he thinks.
