SECURITY LINES: Fifth Line Expected

Posted on: 6:02 pm, June 27, 2012, by

Busy travelers could soon find relief from long security lines at the Des Moines Airport.

Next week, the airport is adding another security lane.

The average wait between 4:30 and 7:30 a.m. is currently 25 minutes.  Airport officials say once the fifth security lane opens on Sunday, that wait time will be sliced to about 10 or 15 minutes.

Officials say longer lines are due to a ten-percent increase in travel at the airport.

Kevin Foley, General Manager at the airport says, “We expect that increase to continue as Southwest comes online this fall. We continue to see increases maybe even larger than that. So, we are gearing up for additional traffic.”

The busiest mornings are Monday and Thursday.

Airline counters and TSA screeners open at 4:00 a.m.
