Boone County Transportation has agreed to provide transportation from a resident’s home to a cooling shelter today, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If you are familiar with their payment system, they ask that you make payment just like any other use of their buses. If you are not familiar, an in town trip is $5.00 and for someone who lives in the county and wants to be brought to town, it will be $7.50. If you cannot afford the fee, they ask for a donation but they will not turn you away if you are not able to make a donation. If you need transportation during the cooling center hours, with the exception of Wednesday, please call Boone County Transportation at 515-432-5038.
On Wednesday, the Boone, Ogden and Madrid Police Departments have agreed to assist, those in their cities with no transportation, to get to the cooling center. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has agreed to help transport those in the county that need assistance getting to a cooling center. If you need transportation on Wednesday, please call the Boone County Communication Center at 515-433-0527 and they will contact the appropriate agency. If the officers that will be helping you are busy on a call, it may take a while for them to get to you but they will come when available. Remember this is a holiday and law enforcement may be busy.
