VEHICULAR HOMICIDE: Boating Death Charges
The brother of a man killed in a boating accident last month is now being accused of homicide.
Two boats crashed into one another on the Des Moines River over Father’s Day weekend. The DNR says the boats were speeding towards one another. At the last second, both swerved into each other.
Forty nine-year-old Kelly Starrett died of his injuries.
Authorities charged the drivers of both boats, 46-year-old Tony Starrett and 54-year-old Steven Mayo of boating while intoxicated.
Wednesday, Tony Starrett, the victim’s brother, was booked into the Polk County Jail. He’s now facing vehicular homicide by OWI in the case.
Experts say sun and heat exposure intensify the effects of alcohol.
