CAR VANDALS: String Of Vehicles Hit

A string of vandalisms in one Des Moines neighborhood has residents cleaning up a big mess today.

“This is really frustrating because I thought this was a safe neighborhood,” says Carol Turner of Des Moines.

Turner woke up to find her daughter’s van with busted windows and body damage.

“We know it was vandalism because there wasn’t anything taken out of the car and it was a random thing because it was this car and then they went down another block,” says Turner.

At least 6 other vehicles were also hit between 7th and 10th along Jefferson.

All had the same type of damage, broken windows and dents along the vehicles.

Des Moines police say reports of vandals have increased in the area, leaving residents on edge more could happen.

“Personally I feel violated because I’ve never had to deal with any of this before never anything like this; this is just a random act of childhood violence,” says Turner.

Police say it’s hard to put a number on how many vehicles were actually targeted, because not everyone reports the crime to police.
