FIREWORKS MISHAP: West Burlington Accident

It’s best to leave the fireworks to the professionals, but even that doesn’t eliminate the risk that comes with the explosives.

The professional fireworks company J&M displays was tapped to put on last night’s show in West Burlington, and it didn’t go as planned.  Just five minutes into the display, one of the fireworks exploded too close to the ground.  That sent sparks into a loaded tube of fireworks setting it off.

Four people were injured and spent the night in the hospital.  They all suffered burns, and one needed stitches for an injury he received while diving for cover.

All four have since been released and city leaders say the incident was nothing more than a freak accident.
