The 4th of July Heat caused an Ames street to buckle upward in the same spot in both directions. Crews blocked off the west bound outside lane of 13th street on Wednesday. On Thursday morning they had to block a portion of the east bound lane of 13th in almost the same spot. Crews were working to fix both trouble spots, traffic was reduced to only two lanes in that spot.
Meanwhile DOT crews dealt with a similar problem on I-35 northbound just north of the Elkhart Exit. Traffic there was moved to the outside lane while crews attacked that pavement buckle. The DOT has advised motorists who come across a buckled pavement to notify local law enforcement.
