First it was the heat, then some welcome rain, along with something called a micro-burst. Around 5 AM on Thursday thunderstorms rolled across Central Iowa, bringing some welcome rain, and some not-so-welcome winds.  The winds downed cornstalks reported 3 miles north of Slater, in southern Story County. An informal survey showed some downed corn from northwest of Slater, to South of Huxley at intersection of Highway 69, and 210.  The damage was also found west of Kelley, going northeast of that town all the way to the south edge of Ames.
