DRIVER KILLED: Driver Run Over By His Own Truck

An Illinois truck driver was killed after he was run over by his own rig at the U.S. Postal Service Distribution center in Urbandale. 

It happened Thursday afternoon.  Carl Magee (46) of Perkin, Illinois was jumped into his truck after it slipped out of gear and started to roll.  He lost his balance and fell under the truck and was run over. 

The center’s safety captain, James Aten, told the Des Moines Register that Magee’s runaway truck was the fourth since the center changed its unloading policy 18 months ago. 

Aten says, before the change the truckers parked their rigs and a specialized truck would take the trailer to the center’s dock.  Now, the drivers back their own rigs to the dock themselves.
