NO GO: Federal Funding For Trail Connector Denied

An application for $4 million in federal money to help connect the Raccoon River Valley Trail and the High Trestle Trail has been denied.

The RRVT’s website says the application, made by Dallas County Conservation, has not been awarded Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation. This is the second time the application for funds has been overlooked for funding.

The complete project would start in Perry and go through Bouton on its way to Woodward. The project is estimated to cost $5 million and the $1 million gap left, had the federal funding been approved, would have been raised by local advocates.

Mike Wallace, the Dallas County Conservation director, says another application to get TIGER funding is possible.
