MURPHY’S LAW: Fran’s Throne, AFL Problems, Happy Uncle
By Chris Hassel
I’m very pleased with Fran McCaffery’s 7-year extension. Just two years ago, when Franny Mac took over, Iowa has the most apathetic fan-base in BCS basketball. Now they’re averaging 2,500 more fans a game, and I believe the Hawks have a legit shot to make the NCAA Tournament, this season. Plus, now he has the money to cover destroying more expensive chairs. I’d like to see him destroy a throne, this year.
Shawn Johnson is no longer an athlete, and she’s still getting more national pub than 99% of the 2012 Olympians. Tuesday, Shawn appeared on the Today Show. She said that she believes Team USA is the favorite to win all-around gold, as is Gabby Douglas. In 2008, Team USA was favored to win all-around gold, along with Shawn Johnson — neither happened.
The MLB All-Star game is tonight. Keith and Andy talk about what a treat it was to watch the game, growing up, when every game wasn’t on TV. I started watching baseball when I was 5 and I don’t ever remember a time when I loved the All-Star game. I always remember it as the worst sports week of the year — which it still is (but don’t tell that to the folks at the John Deere Classic).
Barnstormers QB, J.J Raterink, says the ongoing labor problems between the players and the AFL have been a major distraction, this season. It’s been a mess. Some games have been forfeited due to player strikes/firings. I like having the Barnstormers in town. I hope the league and the players can soon come to an agreement, because it’s been a PR nightmare, this season.
In other news, I’m now an uncle! My wife’s brother, and his wife, gave birth to a 7 pound, 9 ounce, girl named Astoria. I have a feeling I’m going to need to take out a small loan for my wife. She couldn’t go a day without buying something for her niece before she was born.
