ANIMAL NEGLECT: Arrest In Dog’s Heat-Related Death

An Urbandale teen has been arrested on a charge of animal neglect for the heat-related death of his dog.

Urbandale police say 18-year-old Luis Lara-Leyva is to blame for the death of a 1 ½ -year-old German Shepherd, found dead in its kennel. The dog was found June 29th, during an extreme heat wave.

A necropsy revealed the dog died because of the heat.

Lara-Leyva now faces a charge of animal neglect which is a serious misdemeanor.
