MORNING BUZZ: No One’s Fault, Taxing and Email
Good Morning!
Some interesting news today:
No one to blame?
The Des Moines School Board says it wants to suspend Des Moines’ Charter School for a year. They also say no one is to blame. That’s a nice sentiment. Pointing the finger probably won’t help at this point, but there are a lot of people who are responsible for the unmitigated mess at The Des Moines Charter School. There’s the School’s outgoing executive Director, The fired Superintendent of Schools, and of course the people who think no one is to blame…the School Board itself.
Pointing fingers isn’t the lesson you want to teach our kids…but a little bit of taking responsibility for your part of whatever went wrong…is. That would be leadership…The buck stops here…that kind of thing.
Tax Breaks?
The President is making the case again that the Bush Era tax cuts should be extended but only for people making less than $250,000. He says that’s a tax cut.
Republican Mitt Romney argues the President’s plan just keeps the tax rate THE SAME for people earning less than $250,000 and raises taxes for people who make more.
Your particular view about this issue will guide your opinion…but here’s the deal. You either believe people who make more and (Romney argues) create jobs should get a break (so they can hire more people)…or you believe that people who make less and help drive the economy with their spending should get a break….and be able to spend more.
In theory, neither is wrong…it’s just a matter of which one works under the current economic climate…probably a combo.
Back in Iowa
Rick Santorum is back in Iowa. Just as things are starting to go well for Republican Mitt Romney. The economic news is allowing Romney to run neck and neck with the sitting President. He’s got a serious chance of taking the White House.
On cue, here comes Santorum saying he is going to be hard on both the President and Romney. What is that going to look like? How many Republicans will be convinced to stay home election day if he starts criticizing The Party’s nominee?
Democrats aren’t going to have to lift a finger…Santorum will do all the work for them.
Naked Guy
Getting up early is usually quiet…sometimes it’s downright entertaining.
The Police radio went off this morning at about 4am with a report of a woman saying a naked guy jumped in front of her car and waved his junk at her. Police caught up with the guy at Burger King. We did not send a crew.
So I got in this morning to find an email from my good friend in Kansas City. It seems he went to the All-Star game last night and sat next to a guy from Des Moines. My friend told the guy he knew me and it turns out…this guy watches Today in Iowa. His first comment to my friend? “That weather lady really busts his @*!$!”
I relayed the story to Jeriann this morning and she asked me if that was a good thing.
I hope you have a good day.
