MURPHY’S LAW: Friday Scattershots

A bad week for the Big Ten got worse when the Pac 12 pulled out of the scheduling agreement. However, after Penn State, everything is relative. Schedules can be fixed. Lives not as easy. Reputations either.

I hope the Big Ten goes to nine conference games. The coaches, including Kirk Ferentz, want to keep it at eight. That’s understandable. They’d rather schedule a home game that leads to more likely wins and more revenue. Most fans prefer an additional game that means something.

Still can’t believe the Big Ten Network carried the Joe Paterno funeral live, but not the Freeh report press conference. After a firestorm of deserved criticism, the network announced a special report on the Penn State findings for Friday night. That’s a day late.

Ralph Lauren had the USA Olympic outfits made in China. I’d weep, except I’m not surprised. At all. The U-S Olympic Committee says it’s too late to change for London, but Lauren will make the outfits for the 2014 Olympics in the United States. Good. Shouldn’t need controversy for that decision.

I had my first Italian grinder at B&B Grocery this week, thanks to Andy’s story. I don’t want to exaggerate, but the sandwich changed my life.

The Miami Dolphins have contacted the NFL office about changing the Dolphins logo. Don’t do it!

Looking forward to my first Brewfest Saturday. It combines two of my favorite things, Iowa craft beer, and a baseball park.
