SOUNDOFF VIDEO: I Think 7/15/12
Time for, “I think”.
Keith:
I think the report on the 8-month investigation into systematic failure at Penn State confirms our worst fears.
Joe Paterno lied.
Joe Paterno put protecting legacy before protecting children.
Joe Paterno concealed and enabled a serial child rapist.
I don’t care how many football games Paterno won, the statue needs to come down.
Paterno got off easy, but I am glad he lived long enough for Penn State to fire him.
And for Paterno to know, that we know why.
———
I think Penn State needs to shut its own football program down for one season.
Send the message worldwide that Penn State recognizes it needs to pause and reflect on what’s really important, and how the university lost its way.
The NCAA should allow any player transfer without penalty, and those who stay lose no eligibility.
If Penn State won’t punish itself, then the NCAA should step in and give the death penalty.
The president, athletic director, vice president, and head coach conspired to conceal a child predator, and provided him with the means to lure more young victims.
How could you possibly show worse institutional control?
———
Don’t think for a moment Penn State is the only university where the football coach has far too much influence.
All administrators and education boards should see this as a wake-up call for not allowing power go unchecked.
I don’t care how many games a coach wins, or how much money a program earns.
——
I think the Big Ten Network made a credibility crushing decision to ignore the Penn State findings Thursday.
But at least the BTN acknowledged it’s not a news organization, and rebounded with a special report Friday.
———
I think the new $12 million dollar contract for Iowa’s Fran McCaffery is unnecessary, but smart.
I said the same thing about Fred Hoiberg’s new deal in May.
——–
I think Iowa State should have won the ESPY for best upset, but who really cares?
It’s an ESPY. No one will remember the award. No one will forget the game.
——
And I think that caller last week was on to something.
The Cubs remain red hot.
They’re 11 and 4 since calling up Anthony Rizzo!
16 straight wins and they’re back to .500!
Andy:
I think most people would like to move past the Jerry Sandusky scandal, but this wasn`t the week to do it.
I don`t think there are many American sports icons who`ve ever fallen faster and harder than Joe Paterno. Even his most staunch supporters have begun to plead the fifth.
———–
I think Penn State has been killed in the court of public opinion, I think it`s going to be sued to the moon and back, and I think its football program is going to be crippled for a some time. And I think that still might not be enough.
—————
I agree with Keith that it should be Penn State, not the NCAA who applies the death penalty.
—————–
I think the whole reason the Sandusky scandal happened is because people let their love of football take over their brains, and therefore I think I’m tired of hearing from Iowa fans who want Penn State spared and from Iowa State fans who want them skewered.
——————-
I think Jack McCallum`s book ‘Dream Team’ came at a perfect time to take my mind off of the Penn State mess. It`s a book about a sports fantasy come true, and even though you already know most of the characters, you`ll see them fleshed out in a way that makes the whole story even better, somehow.
—————–
I do *not think that Kobe Bryant is and this year`s Olympic squad could beat the `92 team. No way.
—————–
I think it`s too bad that Iowa State didn`t win an ESPY award…that is, until I recall that I have never really cared about or paid attention to the ESPYs. Don`t the athletes already have awards for everything?
—————-
Finally…in the new edition of E-A Sports` NCAA Football, you can take past Heisman winners and make them switch uniforms! I think I`d love to be there to witness the reaction in Alabama, where some hot-headed Auburn fan stumbles into his basement to find his kid moving Bo Jackson onto the Crimson Tide roster. This new feature could prompt a new civil war.
