MISSING GIRLS: Officials Draining Meyers Lake
Search crews are taking drastic measures to try to find two missing cousins, last seen on Friday in Evansdale.
They started draining Meyers Lake Monday, where police found the bikes of 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook.
“It is our opinion that we should be 100% sure and in order to be 100% sure, we are going to have to drain that lake,” said Rick Abben, with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department.
It could take as long as three days to drain the lake.
Earlier, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office said they were confident the girls were not in the lake after dragging it Sunday.
There has been no trace of Elizabeth and Lyric since they left for a bike ride Friday afternoon.
Photos of the girls are plastered around Evansdale, with pink ribbon reminders tied around the city.
Though officials are not organizing another massive search, volunteers still plan to look for girls on their own.
Investigators don’t suspect foul play.
