AWARD WINNING: Iowa DOT Wins Two Regional Awards
Just weeks before the Summer Olympics, the Iowa DOT is collecting some hardware of their own.
The Iowa Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that they have been awarded two regional America’s Transportation Awards.
The Iowa DOT was recognized in the “Ahead of Schedule” category by rebuilding a section of Interstate 680 in only 34 working days after the 2011 Missouri River flooding. They were also recognized in the “Best Use of Innovation” category for a bridge they built over Keg Creek in Pottawattamie County. The bridge was completely prefabricated off-site and then assembled at the construction site. This allowed the road to be closed for just two weeks.
