GROCERY PRICES: Drought Impact On Consumers
Farmers and producers aren’t the only ones suffering in this drought.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says you’ll see the impact of declining yields and rising prices at the grocery store as well.
Vilsack says, “We’ll probably see those higher prices later this year, first part of next year. Processed foods obviously impacted by crop yields, and we would likely see the impact of that also in 2013.
Vilsack met with President Obama Wednesday to discuss agriculture conditions.
Officials say 80-percent of the nation is in some stage of drought.
This weekend, Congressman Dave Loebsack will tour some of the areas already declared disaster areas due to the drought. He wants congress to extend disaster-loss programs to cover the current crop crisis.
