TRACK TRIP: Local Sponsors Come Through

Earlier this week, we told you about a group of local kids trying to raise money to make the trip to the USA Track and Field Meet in Baltimore.

The Iowa Core Elite Track Club had raised about $4,000 on its own for the trip and Oakley, a former sponsor of the team’s coach Kim Carson and current sponsor of Lolo Jones, had agreed to pitch in the rest of the cost. Then Oakley dropped out.

Well thanks to our story, some generous sponsors have stepped up to the plate. Hy-Vee presented Kim Carson with a check Friday morning.

Casey’s, Prairie Meadows and Valley West Mall are also chipping in to cover the cost of the trip, which is about $11,000.
