An Ottumwa man is in jail Monday, after he allegedly attacked three people with a hatchet Sunday night.

Ottumwa police were called to a home at 219 North Marion street just after 7:30 a.m. on a report of a disturbance.

When they arrived they found three people suffering from hatchet wounds. One victim refused treatment, a second was taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center, with what police are calling moderate injuries. The third victim was transported to Iowa City in critical condition.

Police arrested 26-year-old Charles Zwer a short distance from the home.  He is charged with attempted murder, and more charges are pending. He’s being held in the Wapello County Jail.
