DALASTA TRIAL: Another Delay Requested
The trial of an Ankeny man accused of killing two children in a crash more than two years ago could be delayed again.
Kevin Dalasta is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.
His defense is requesting another delay in his trial, claiming Dalasta isn’t competent to stand trial.
Dalasta had brain surgery earlier this year, reportedly to treat his epileptic condition.
According to the Des Moines Register, his attorney says Dalasta is now “suffering from various conditions” that make him incompetent to stand trial.
Dalasta is accused of running a stop sign in May 2010 and hitting the Dejoode family van.
Five-month old Claire and five-year old Carson were killed. Mother Heather and son Chase were injured in the crash.
