OVERDOSE DEATH: Newton Man Sentenced To 15 Years
A Newton man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of a Mingo Teen.
A judge sentenced 20-year-old Wyatt Franklin to serve five years for involuntary manslaughter and 10 years for possession of controlled substances.
The charges came after 19-year-old Shasta Sapp was found unresponsive in Colfax in November of 2011 and later pronounced dead at a Newton hospital.
Officials determined that Sapp was left unattended after she passed out at a party she attended with Franklin and other friends the night before. According to toxicology reports, Sapp died of an overdose of oxymorphone, a narcotic pain medication.
At the sentencing, Franklin apologized to the family of Shasta Sapp.
