DAUTOVIC CASE: Federal Trial Begins Tuesday
A former Des Moines police officer is heading to federal trial for a 2008 traffic incident.
Mersed Dautovic is facing federal charges civil rights violations and obstruction of justice. He’ll go to trial on those charges Tuesday.
He’s also facing state charges of willful injury, felony misconduct and perjury. Dautovic goes to trial on those charges in October.
The charges all stem from the 2008 incident during a traffic stop in which Dautovic allegedly beat Octavious Bonds with a baton.
Dautovic’s former partner, John Mailander, was charged along with Dautovic. He has already pled guilty to both state and federal charges and is awaiting sentencing.
