With talk of food prices going up, you may want to focus on saving at the grocery store. One metro woman is trying to help you eat healthy foods while staying on budget.
Registered Dietitian Jodi Bullock recently added “Healthy Hot Deals” to her blog called “The Active Eater.” She goes through all the metro’s weekly store ads to find the best deals. She also includes a healthy recipe with ingredients on sale. This past week’s blog includes a sale on strawberries at 2 for $3. She says to stock up at that price and freeze for future use, like in smoothies. She says make sure you wash thoroughly, dry, remove stems and slice before freezing.
She says it doesn’t take much time or money to eat nutritious meals. She says, “It’s so easy to do a healthy meal based around vegetables and lean proteins within 30 minutes, so I just look in my refrigerator and see what I got on sale that week and create something from it.”
Bullock says she doesn’t just look at the store’s print ads. She also looks online and in the store for additional savings. She says you’ll also find coupons for healthy deals there.
