OVERNIGHT ACCIDENT: Four Taken to Hospitals
Des Moines police are investigating an overnight accident that sent four people to the hospital.
It happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Merle Hay and Douglas.
Des Moines police say they began following a red Honda that was traveling northbound on Merle Hay around College St. They say the Honda was going around 80 miles per hour and was going through red lights and stop signs.
Police were about four blocks behind when the Honda ran a red light, hitting an SUV traveling east on Douglas. Three vehicles were involved in the crash.
The SUV rolled several times, hitting a pick-up truck, before stopping.
The driver of the Honda was trapped, and had to be cut from the vehicle.
Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.
Paramedics also took the driver of the pick-up and the two women in the SUV to the hospital.
Their conditions are not known, but police say their injuries do not appear life threatening.
