OLYMPIC INTEREST: Kayaking Grabs Attention
During the Olympics, the interest in some of the sports that aren’t mainstream is raised. One of sports hoping to gain a higher profile and get more people out paddling is kayaking.
The effort seems to be working in Iowa.
At Honey Creek Resort near Moravia people are signing up for lessons to kayak. One reason these lessons are so popular — they are free.
“You will notice you may have to paddle more on one side, than the other… and you will also find out which one of your arms are stronger,” says instructor Jacob Ahee.
Young and old alike learn in a bay on Rathbun Lake how to get in and out of a kayak and maneuver with paddles.
Some advanced groups can actually tour parts of the lake.
