WASTE WATER: Chariton Creek Affected
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says untreated waste water from a sewage pipe in Chariton flowed into a creek Wednesday morning.
The release was reported by a resident and was coming from a manhole near Third St. and York Avenue. About 3,000 gallons of waste water is estimated to have flowed into the dry channel of Little Whitebreast Creek.
Children and pets should stay out of the creek channel for at least 48 hours.
The area where the waste water flowed overland is being limed.
