LAST DAY: Long Time Younkers Employee Retires
A special employee is retiring from Younkers at the Merle Hay Mall after 42-years of service.
Richard Renner says taking care of his co-workers is among the perks of his job. At Younkers he’s known as a social butterfly.
The 64-year-old has an intellectual disability.
Friday, Richard’s co-workers and family held a party for his retirement complete with presents and cake. They also recalled his service and even his heroism during a big fire.
Debbie Brandt, a store manager said, “He survived the fire back in the 70′s. He was actually in the building when it imploded and he got himself and quite a few of the survivors to the door.”
His family says now that he’s retiring, he’ll have more time to cheer on the Hawkeyes.
