MURPHY’S LAW: Gabby Controversy, Trampoline Time, Friendly Danica

Murphy's Law Generic

  • There’s no way to prove “Greatest Olympian of All Time”, but Michael Phelps is making it increasingly difficult to argue anyone else.
  • Jesse Owens is arguably the most important Olympian ever. Not even 21 medals tops disproving Hitler’s superior race theory.
  • Missy Franklin is so refreshing.
  • No one has to tell me twitter is a place to find haters. I just never thought Gabby Douglas would find out so soon. She’s been criticized for her hair. And it’s reportedly come largely from African-American women. Sad. And foolish. I sure hope Gabby doesn’t feel pressure to change. We like her just the way she is. (This topic made Erin Kiernan so mad, she filed the rare Friday blog.)
  • Ryan told me on twitter his grandpa says, “Some people don’t fart, burp or snore. Therefore, they must bitch. Otherwise, they’d blow up.”
  • Trampoline is in prime time right now. Remember when a kid in your neighborhood got a trampoline? Greatest gift ever. For a week. Or the first emergency room visit. Whichever came first.
  • Dong Dong won Olympic trampoline. I’m relieved Chris Hassel’s not working.
  • Danica Patrick walked over to high-five our new sports reporter John Sears in the middle of his on-cam appearance. This marks the friendliest gesture I’ve ever seen or heard from Danica—outside a Go Daddy commercial. Maybe this kinder, gentler Danica is going to be a factor Saturday night in Newton.
  • We’re headed to the Iowa Speedway Saturday for tailgating and racing. I hope Grimes’ Brett Moffitt has fun in his NASCAR Nationwide debut. He’s a nice kid. Well, he’s 19 now, but still seems so young.
  • The I-Cubs are wearing these jerseys Saturday night. NWTF invites a few interpretations, but in this case, it stands for National Wild Turkey Federation. Wild is the right word for these. Ugly is another. Or maybe that’s just me. What do you think?
