Leaders of a local food pantry want to fill the shelves with more than just food the rest of this summer.

DMARC Food Pantry Network Director Rebecca Whitlow says, “Diapers are very important for families. It costs about $25 a week for an average infant. And, a lot of people have to choose between food and diapers.”

Whitlow says nearly half of the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s Food Pantry clients need diapers. She says DMARC can no longer buy diapers, so they rely on donations.

Leaders of a local hospital want to donate 10,000 diapers by the end of September, but they need your help. Iowa Health Des Moines kicked off the second year of the Diaper-a-Day social media campaign this month. The hospital will donate a diaper for every Facebook fan and Twitter follower, plus every time followers answer a daily question.

Iowa Health Des Moines Communications Specialist Corey Morrison says, “It’s a good situation for us because we’re reaching out and building those relationships, but at the same time we’re donating diapers to someone who needs them.”

You can help donate diapers online too.
