Marshall County authorities are looking into the death of a hunter who disappeared during a competition.

26-year old Preston Luft of Carroll did not return to the Central Iowa Coon Hunters Association Lodge in Marshalltown on Saturday.

The sheriff’s department says he split off from the other contestants to look for his dog.

Crews looked for Luft, using ATV’s, dogs, horseback, helicopter and boats, but could not find him. Some hunters finally found Luft’s body hours later.

Deputies say they don’t yet know what caused his death.
