RUNAWAY TRUCK: One Dead After Truck Hits Crowd

One person was killed and five injured when an out-of-control truck slammed into crowd in Eastern Iowa. 

Merilyn Merill missed being killed by just a couple of inches.  She was at a livestock auction at the Kalona Sales Barn in Washington County when the driver of an auctioneer truck took off, right into the crowd. 

“I was standing next to the truck and I got spun around, and I seen the truck hitting people and everybody’s shouting stop, stop, stop.  Get out of the way. ” Merill recalls, ”A guy was hurt in the hip.  Another guy got hit.  He went down.  And then the gentleman that was down here on the end, he got pinned between a horse trailer and the truck that was out of control.”

The truck stopped a few blocks away.  Police say the elderly driver had a “Medical situation”.
